Research to help develop consents and authorisation wording for pensions dashboards

The Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) commissioned Ipsos to undertake research into users’ understanding of how their data will be used during the pensions dashboard journey.

Respondents were asked to provide feedback on draft versions of consent and authorisation wording that could appear on dashboards. This wording explained what the Money and Pensions Service would and would not do with a user’s data and asked for their consent for these uses.

Feedback was positive, particularly around the clarity and conciseness of messaging, which encouraged respondents to read what was displayed on the dashboard in detail. Their feedback led to some minor adjustments in the consent and authorisation wording which improved understanding.

This research also checked initial reactions to the concept of dashboards and confirmed the findings from earlier research conducted by Ipsos for PDP. This feedback was also positive with most feeling that dashboards would make it easier to track their pensions savings and find pots they may have lost. Overall, respondents felt that using pensions dashboards would make them more aware of their pension arrangements and potentially more engaged with saving for retirement.

Ipsos undertook in-depth video interviews with 25 potential end-users of pensions dashboards. This sample covered a range of ages, income levels and pension types.
