The Government has restated its commitment to delivering pensions dashboards in a written statement.
How pensions dashboards complement wider pension support
As we move closer to launching the MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard, we want to help people understand how dashboards fit alongside the wider range of pension guidance and support we offer. The MoneyHelper dashboard does not stand alone, it is an important extension of our mission to improve financial wellbeing, empower people with clearer information and help them build confidence in their long-term financial decisions.
Why guidance alongside dashboards is important
The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard will allow individuals to view their pension information online, in one secure place, helping them understand what they have, where it is and what it may be worth in the future.
This matters because engagement with pensions remains low. Our research in 2022 found that 55% of UK adults had not taken any pension engagement actions in the previous year, while research from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) showed many people find pensions complex and difficult to understand. Bringing clear information together through dashboards, alongside MoneyHelper’s guidance and support, helps address these challenges by supporting people to understand their options and take informed action at a pace that suits them.
Guidance available through MoneyHelper
Alongside the MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard, people can access a range of free, impartial pensions guidance services through MoneyHelper. This includes Pension Wise appointments for those with UK-based defined contribution pensions. Mainly for those over 50, Pension Wise offers a confidential conversation to help people understand their options.
People can also speak to trained pensions specialists via phone, webchat or email, or explore online tools, guides and webinars that support pension decisions at different life stages.
The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard could prompt a range of questions as users explore their pensions. Many will benefit from additional support to build understanding and make informed decisions. Alongside its established services, MoneyHelper is introducing onward journeys to offer guidance and tools to help users understand what their pensions mean for them and to support users in taking confident next steps in their retirement planning.
The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard will signpost users directly to these services at relevant points, helping people move seamlessly from seeing their pension information to accessing guidance that can support their next steps.
How pensions dashboards fit into our strategic priorities
Our 2025-28 Strategic Plan sets out 4 priorities which the MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard complements:
- Brilliant services that make a difference
- Collaboration that gets results
- Information that enables
- Capability that transforms
Aligned with the ‘brilliant services that make a difference’ priority, the MoneyHelper dashboard supports this aim by offering a clear, accessible starting point for people to begin engaging with their pensions. When paired with MoneyHelper’s existing services such as Pension Wise appointments and pensions tools, they become part of a wider journey that helps people turn information into action.
Reflecting the ‘collaboration that gets results’ priority, pensions dashboard delivery is a cross-industry effort involving government, regulators, pension providers and schemes at every stage, from connecting providers and schemes, to testing dashboards with consumers and subject‑matter experts. This collaborative approach helps ensure dashboards are secure, trusted and designed around users’ needs, reflecting our commitment to partnership working that delivers results at scale.
Under the ‘information that enables’ priority, we emphasise the importance of accessible, trustworthy information. The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard will enable individuals to see their pensions data in one place. For many people, having guidance available alongside this information can provide additional reassurance and help them think through their options. This is where MoneyHelper’s phone, chat, email guidance and online resources support people to explore what they see and consider their next steps.
Supporting the ‘capability that transforms’ priority, pensions dashboards introduce a new way for people to engage with their pensions, bringing information together in a more consistent and accessible format. In doing so, they also support improvements in pensions data quality across the industry. These improvements will deliver benefits for savers and schemes alike, helping ensure pension information is clearer, more accurate and more usable, not just for dashboards, but for wider pensions administration and communications over time.
Looking ahead
The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard is designed to enhance the impact of our guidance services and aligns strongly with our strategic ambition to empower people to build financial wellbeing. They help inform people's next steps, supporting people to plan more confidently for their retirement.
