The Government has restated its commitment to delivering pensions dashboards in a written statement.
PDP confirms identity service provider
- pensions dashboard users will verify their identity with GOV.UK One Login
- GOV.UK One Login will also make it easier for those who have previously registered with One Login for other government services
People will be able to use the government’s GOV.UK One Login to securely prove their identity for pensions dashboards when they become publicly available.
The Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) confirmed that GOV.UK One Login will be the identity service provider for anyone using the dashboard service. Provided by the UK government, GOV.UK One Login ensures users only have to prove their identity once and can use this proof to access other services they use, saving time and effort.
This means users who have already registered to use government services through GOV.UK One Login will not have to prove their identity again when registering to use a pensions dashboard.
The identity service for dashboards will ensure people must prove who they are before they can access confidential pensions information.
Chris Curry, PDP’s Principal, said:
“Pensions dashboards will be a transformative tool for retirement planning, but it’s also crucial that the service is safe and secure. The identity service will make sure that people cannot fraudulently register on behalf of others to access their information.
“GOV.UK One Login is an identity service used across government, meaning that a user who has already registered with this service will find it simple to register to use a dashboard.”

About PDP
The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) established the Pensions Dashboards Programme team to design and implement the ecosystem that will make pensions dashboards work and which will enable individuals to view all their pensions data via their chosen dashboard. Pensions dashboards will enable individuals to access their pensions information online, securely and all in one place, thereby supporting better planning for retirement and growing financial wellbeing. Dashboards will provide clear and simple information about an individual’s multiple pension savings, including their State Pension. They will also help them to reconnect with any lost pension pots.
The Pensions Dashboards Programme has its own website where news, blogs and reports will be published regularly.
MaPS role in developing pensions dashboards
Government has committed to facilitating the pensions industry to develop this initiative and have given specific responsibilities to the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) which include:
- bringing together a programme team to lead the implementation of pensions dashboards
- appointing an industry steering group to set the strategic direction of the programme
- beginning work to create and run a non-commercial pensions dashboard – the MaPS dashboard
