PDP publishes updated technical standards and code of connection

  • the Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) has published updated versions of dashboards technical standards and the code of connection
  • these mandatory documents set out requirements on industry organisations involved in dashboards
  • pension providers and schemes should use these updated versions to prepare for connection

The Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) has published its technical standards and code of connection, the latest documents for industry outlining obligations to connect to the dashboards ecosystem.

The technical standards set out how data and dashboard providers will interface with the central digital architecture and each other. The updated draft code of connection outlines the mandatory requirements for pension providers and schemes, and dashboard providers, to connect and remain connected. This document includes operational, security and service standards.

PDP recommends providers and schemes align with the current versions of standards on its website whilst preparing for connection.

Oliver Morley, CEO of the Money and Pensions Service, which oversees PDP, said:

“The updated drafts of the technical standards and the code of connection are the latest sign of PDP’s progress towards industry connection. Our 20-plus volunteer participants, as well as feedback from other pension providers and schemes, have helped us ensure that we get these complex documents right.

“The commitment to deliver dashboards that will help transform retirement planning is gaining momentum. We’ll keep industry informed as the remaining standards are updated ahead of connection in line with the timetable in guidance from the Department for Work and Pensions. As we get closer to April 2025, we’ll continue to work closely with providers and schemes to help them prepare to connect.”

The updated standards can be found on the PDP website.

About PDP

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) established the Pensions Dashboards Programme team to design and implement the ecosystem that will make pensions dashboards work and which will enable individuals to view all their pensions data via their chosen dashboard.  Pensions dashboards will enable individuals to access their pensions information online, securely and all in one place, thereby supporting better planning for retirement and growing financial wellbeing. Dashboards will provide clear and simple information about an individual’s multiple pension savings, including their State Pension. They will also help them to reconnect with any lost pension pots.

The Pensions Dashboards Programme has its own website where news, blogs and reports will be published regularly.

MaPS role in developing pensions dashboards

Government has committed to facilitating the pensions industry to develop this initiative and have given specific responsibilities to the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) which include:

  • bringing together a programme team to lead the implementation of pensions dashboards
  • appointing an industry steering group to set the strategic direction of the programme
  • beginning work to create and run a non-commercial pensions dashboard – the MaPS dashboard
