Reporting standards: latest update and consultation

An updated draft version of the reporting standards for pension providers and schemes in scope for pensions dashboards has been published on the Pensions Dashboards Programme (PDP) website.

Here we provide more information about what reporting standards are, what’s changing, and what this means for pension providers and schemes preparing for dashboards.

About reporting standards

The reporting standards set out requirements on pension providers and schemes for generating and recording operational information relating to dashboards and reporting it to the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS).

This is to support oversight and management of the pensions dashboards ecosystem. It also supports the regulators' functions around compliance monitoring and enforcement.

The reporting standards are part of a set of standards for pension providers and schemes. The others are data standards, technical standards and the code of connection. They make up a set of rules and controls that facilitate the ongoing connection to, and operation of, the dashboards ecosystem.

What’s being updated

The reporting standards version 2.0 were formally approved and became part of the legislative framework for dashboards in March 2025. They require that pension providers and schemes generate and retain records on data relating to coverage, service availability and view responses, to be made available to MaPS on request.

Version 2.0 made clear that at a later date we would update the reporting standards around how this data should be routinely reported to MaPS via application programming interfaces (APIs).

The updated draft reporting standards (version 2.2) set out the technical requirements for submitting this data to MaPS. The updated draft makes no change to what data must be generated, recorded and reported. What will be changing is how the data is to be reported to MaPS, with daily submission via API replacing ad-hoc reporting on request, and with a proposed implementation deadline of 30 November 2026.

The changelog in version 2.2 displays a comprehensive list of all changes made.

Reporting standards consultation

We would like to hear industry’s feedback on implementing these reporting standards updates.

As such, we have opened a reporting standards consultation where pension providers and schemes and other relevant parties can share their views on implementing the updates, including on feasibility of the proposed timeframe.

The consultation is primarily aimed at those who are affected by the proposed changes to the reporting standards. This includes pension providers and schemes, who will be accountable for compliance with the updated standards. It also applies to third-party administrators and third-party connection providers who will implement the changes on their clients’ behalf. We also welcome views from any interested parties, for instance stakeholders in the broader pensions sector.

Those interested to contribute may share their views on these changes until 30 April 2026 at which time the consultation will close and we will consider the feedback received and publish a response. The deadline for the consultation has been extended.

Legislative approval

The reporting standards version 2.0 were approved by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and the Department for Communities (Northern Ireland) in March 2025, making them legally binding. Version 2.0 will continue to be legally binding for connected pension providers and schemes until a new version is formally approved. Pension providers and schemes therefore need to make sure all the required data is being recorded to be made available to MaPS on request.

In the meantime, both versions are published on the PDP website for clarity and comprehensiveness:

Once the draft version has been formally approved, we will work the updates into a single version of the reporting standards and will update the website accordingly.
